【Outline of the Project】

In Manila, the capital of the Republic of the Philippines, water supply operations began in 1997 under concession agreements with two private companies in the east and west. In western Manila, where Maynilad is responsible, the rate of Non-revenue Water (NRW) is estimated at 40% as of 2023 due to many aging facilities remaining. Maynilad has been strategically taking measures to address NRW so far, but more efficient countermeasures are required to reduce the NRW rate. From October 2017 to January 2019, YWC assisted Maynilad in enhancing the capabilities of NRW Management under the JICA project. Subsequently, MWSS-RO, the regulatory agency for water supply projects in Metro Manila, requested practical assistance from YWC, which has a comprehensive and public perspective of Yokohama. Since then, MWSS-RO and YWC have been discussing the details of the support. In this project, we plan to implement the following activities to improve Maynilad’s NRW.

  • ・Verification of feasibility of NRW reduction plans
  • ・Evaluation of pipe network calculations considering water pressure management
  • ・Evaluation of leakage detection and repair management
  • ・Evaluation of trunk and primary lines (main pipes) status
  • ・Evaluation of construction management
  • ・Evaluation of Maynilad NRW training program

Contract period: Approximately six months from the contract date Implementing agency: Yokohama Water Co., Ltd.
