Contract awarded to water utilities in Punjab Province, Pakistan

Yokohama Water Company (YWC) awarded contract for the second stage of consulting services to improve the capacity of water supply utilities in the Punjab Province, Pakistan

YWC, an engineering consulting firm, forming a joint venture together with Japan Techno Co., Ltd. (JAT) as the representative and NJS Company (NJS), was awarded a contract from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Tokyo, JAPAN, for the second stage of the project (hereinafter “Phase 2”) to lead to sustainable improvement in enhancing the capacity of the personnel of Water Supply and Sanitation Agencies (WASAs) in five major cities (Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Multan and Rawalpindi) in the Punjab Province, Pakistan.

Introduction to Phase 2
Name of the project: Project for improving the capacity of WASAs in Punjab Province Phase 2
Duration: from February 15, 2021 to March 23, 2022 (1st stage) and from April 11, 2022 to March 22, 2024 (2nd stage)
Consulting services to be provided:
・ To improve the quality of training programs at the training facility (hereinafter “the Academy”) which five WASAs jointly established
・ To establish the structure to conduct trainings in each WASA to share the knowledge and the expertise learned at the Academy
・ To support WASA training centre in Lahore, the capital of the Punjab Province, to improve the quality of training programs
・ To invite the personnel and provide training programs in Japan

Background
・ The Academy failed to implement training programs satisfactorily.
・ JICA provided the project (Phase 1) from 2015 to 2018 to establish the training system and to enhance trainers’ capacity in the Academy.

YWC, established in 2010 by Waterworks Bureau, City of Yokohama (YWWB), provides engineering consulting services utilizing accumulated knowledge and expertise based on the long history of quality services in water supply and sewerage works of City of Yokohama. YWWB is the oldest modern water utility in Japan dating back to 1887.
